We live in a fast-paced, stressful and hyper-connected world.
One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. Mindfulness is an accessible, easy to learn and simple way to build resilience and wellbeing.
Think of mindfulness as a way to switch off the autopilot and navigate your own path to a richer, fuller experience of life. Read more here about the benefits of mindfulness.
Mindfulness and the concept of 'living in the present moment' can feel quite intangible. LifeUp makes mindfulness easy and accessible by breaking it down into 6 easy-to-follow acronyms, our 6 steps up the LifeUp Mindfulness Mountain.
Each acronym lays out simple and practical techniques to follow for each level of the mountain. And, there's no need to shut yourself away and meditate for hours on end - the LifeUp Challenge is about embedding mindfulness into your daily life.
What's different about LifeUp?
Most of us understand the benefits that come with being fully present in life. The greatest challenge is remembering to do it!
Good habits seem to stick when they build up gradually, incorporating small, incremental changes over time. When training for a marathon, you’d start your schedule with a 5k jog, not a 20 mile run.
The same approach should be taken with mindfulness. LifeUp helps people go from 'Survive to Thrive' by providing 6 easy-to-follow acronyms, our 6 steps up the LifeUp Mindfulness Mountain.
Each acronym is made up of bite-size mindfulness activities that are powerful in their own right. These are delivered to your inbox in an easy-to-follow daily schedule. Over time the practice can be effortlessly integrated into your daily life, helping you become a master of mindfulness and builder of powerful new habits!
Is the course for me?
Sure! The LifeUp Challenge is designed to be experiential and fun, which makes it ideal for all levels. The first stage of the course is 'Basecamp Training', which is an introduction to mindfulness and the essential info and tools to start to climb the LifeUp mindfulness mountain.
From their each step up the mountain builds on the last and so the course is also appropriate if you want to become an intermediate or advanced practitioner.
Training starts at Basecamp where you’ll get the essential mindfulness introduction & toolkit to prepare you for the challenge ahead. You’ll then climb the 6 steps through the remaining 3 mountain stages of Resilience, Connection and Authenticity.
Each stage is a course in its own right, that builds on the previous stage. How far you climb and which stages and steps you complete will depend on your own objectives and time commitment. As each step up the mountain builds on the last the course is also appropriate if you want to become an intermediate or advanced practitioner.
How long does it take and what do I have to do?
BaseCamp Training and each step up the mountain will take approximately a week each and then you'll have the optional of an additional week of practice to habituate the step.
After signing up you'll receive a daily email educational activity to try out and at the end of that step receive a guided audio to help habituate the mindful behaviour of that step into a life skill.
There is also a supporting App that acts as a pocket reference guide and short supporting LifeUp e-books with more detailed information for those interested. Search for 'LifeUp' in the app store
What technology do I need to take the LifeUp Challenge?
An email address and access to the internet is all you need. You will receive emails and links to audio practicals. You'll also be given access to the accompanying LifeUp App, which is the complimentary pocket reference guide to LifeUp and can be downloaded to Apple or Android phones. The course is delivered virtually and carefully curated to fit around your life - so you can enjoy your mindfulness on the go!
Do I have to close my eyes to be mindful?
No, mindfulness is much more than meditation. Formal meditation is a good way to create 'headspace' but it's not the only way. During the LifeUp Challenge you'll learn quick and easy techniques, and practice a more integrated approach to mindfulness. If you can complement your LifeUp journey with formal meditation, so much the better, but it's not essential.
How will I know when it's working?
During the LifeUp Challenge you'll likely have plenty of 'a-ha' moments about how you think, feel and behave. As you practice the daily activities you'll start to feel the benefits. These will accumulate over the weeks and you might be surprised as you - and those around you - notice changes.
Is it religious?
No, this course does not contain anything of a religious or spiritual nature. You will not be asked to accept or believe anything that cannot be directly experienced for yourself. LifeUp is secular practice carefully curated for modern life and 21st century workplaces.
Is it for everyone?
Yes, everyone can benefit from learning mindfulness and integrating it into their daily life. It can have a positive impact physical, as well as mentally. However, if you're suffering from depression or other mental health conditions, we recommend you consult with your doctor. LifeUp is a wellness programme for well people, not a mental health intervention.
What if I don’t have the time?
